Howdy Resonators! With my pending west coast relocation, I'll have to be more vicarious in following the exploits of our favorite all-singing operation, and join in with dame_ratcliffe in advocating a So-Cal tour.

Good luck with auditions this fall! Someone post how it goes!

please email res-tour@mit.edu if you have any leads/suggestions/encouragement, etc.

News updates!
I'm not sure how many of you are on the alum email list (and if you're not on it, ie you havent received emails recently, email resonance-request@mit.edu about it) but there's tons of great news!

(as sent out in an email from Solomon Bisker)
The members of the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America (CASA)
have voted and awarded Resonance two 2006 A Cappella Community Awards, in our
only two categories of eligibility!

Favorite Scholastic A cappella Album:
Winner (Tie): Left on Red (MIT Resonance), Shadowplay (Stanford Harmonics)
Runner Up: None

(The vaguely-titled "Favorite Scholastic A cappella Album" category includes any
a cappella albums released by any high school or college group, including mixed,
male and female groups, in the past year)

Favorite Mixed Collegiate Group:
Winner: Stanford Harmonics
Runner Up (Tie): MIT Resonance, Northwestern Purple Haze, UPenn Off the Beat

A full list of winners in all categories is available here:

Note that these awards are NOT the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards
(CARAs), though both programs are run by CASA (and, we suspect, include many of
the same voters....) Rather, the ACAs are a new program, started in 2004, and
are voted on by the CASA community at large, with hundreds of members voting.
The 2006 CARA nominations will be announced within the next month.

Fall Concert Date
Hey folks,

Not sure how many of you guys know this, but the Fall Concert is going to be:

Friday, December 9th, at 9 pm.

I already know that some of you might be coming (since you live in the area), but maybe comment letting us know who's coming! I've been told a certain asian boy who sings steal my kisses has just paid $300 to come back to Boston for the weekend. . .

(not saying if you are a bazillion miles away that you should pay a bazillion dollars or so to fly out here. .. but anyway)

okay, awesome. I can't wait to see all you guys!

Take a look for yourself, the videos are on our archives page:

fund-raising idea
Hey all.. I'd like to reiterate an idea I suggested to some resonators several months ago. I know that the current group has been really busy with CD-recording and tour- um, touring, so you haven't really any time for big social events. I suggest that you guys organize some sort of dinner or party to invite all your alums to, as a fund-raising event. If you work it right, it would cost you guys very little effort or money, but hopefully remind us alums how much fun Resonance is/was. And, of course, therefore loosen our pocketbook strings some.

So yeah, toss that idea around and let me know if it's a plan. (I'll be holding off on my donations until then.) ;)

New Shotts!
Hey everyone!

I'm not sure how many people were around when we came up with the idea to call our newbies "shotts". Explanation behind it: Our symbol is the wine glass, they're a smaller version, shot glass, or pledge class, or shot class. . .etc. The extra "t" is there because shotts are hott, and the more t's in "hot", the hotter you are, so, yeah. . ..

ANYWAY, this past weekend was the Activities Midway, and Auditions, Callbacks, etc. And. . .we came out of that with. . .SEVEN SHOTTS!!! Yes, that's right. We're up to a healthy 17.

Stay tuned.

oh, and we also got the domain MITresonance.com, so you can always visit there instead of web.mit.edu/resonance/www. you can access it either way.

I may forget to post more to this, but if you have any questions about people we took or what happened, let me know!

Song Ideas, anyone?
Hey Alumni and current members. . .just wondering if anyone had ideas for songs the group should do. I dont know if you want to post to here, or email someone. you can email me (srs@mit.edu), or i guess email resonance-request@mit.edu.

I just figure that we need to expand our rep, bring back so more eccentric pieces. or if anyone can think of cool sounding pop songs, thats cool too.

if you're looking for resonance sound files. . .
let me know.

I have some of the gbis and sgbis recordings from some of the concerts, and I also could get some other files off of our server if you're interested. I suppose you could just email resonance-request@mit.edu if you want certain mp3s. I just remember hearing some of the alumni saying they dont have recordings of songs. . .so I can see if I can get them to you, or maybe I can post them to my public (or if you know how to post it to livejournal, let me know)

Concert this Weekend
Just a reminder to those who watch this community that the Resonance concert is Saturday night at 9PM in 10-250.

Corey and I get to campus around 1:30 or so Friday and leave way too early on Sunday (by the time we figured out when Corey's mom could watch our puppy, tix for the afternoon flights had gotten very expensive!!!). Anyway, I'm not organizing a big group dinner for the first time this trip because we won't be there Sunday and the current members will be performing both Friday and Saturday night. I hope everyone will be going to the afterparty though!!!!!!

More people should post here. I'd love to hear how everyone's doing!

I'm very happy to see that we have 10 members now!!! 7 old members (5 of those are originals) and 3 current members. Please encourage other Resonators to join!!!

I figured I'd put a quick post up here about recent things that made me think of Resonance. First, concert is 2 weeks from Saturday,May 7. I know westwasp, piratemnkyrobot and I will all be traveling up and I assume caspr and her boy will be there...Are the rest of you oldies going to be around?

Next thing I wanted to mention was that we went to see The Bobs on Thursday night, the group we opened for in Kresge when we were less than a year old and just starting to make our mark at MIT. They were very cool and afterwards I got to tell them that we opened for them once upon a time...which was spiffy.

And I guess last is that I had a dream last night that piratemnkyrobot and I were still in the group, and we'd been sung out when we actually were, but then stuck around Boston and ended up still being in the group. But this term would be our last officially, so in my dream I was trying to figure out if we going to be sung out again or what. It was very strange...I guess I just miss everyone.

Well, hope to see lots of you in 2 and a 1/2 weeks, and the rest of you soon!!!

Hey there everyone,
I figured I'd post this in case anyone is interested

Vocal talent sought for successful, high profile, professional a cappella group based in Ithaca, NY. They’ve toured and shared the stage with Barenaked Ladies, Hootie and the Blowfish, Rascal Flatts, Diamond Rio, the Four Tops, and the Temptations. Please forward to your entire mailing list. This is a national search for interested male candidates in their 20’s who wish to pursue a serious performance career. This is an incredible opportunity and therefore highly competitive. They’re booked extensively well into 2006, so be advised that YOU WILL BE TRAVELING EXTENSIVELY. Serious applicants only. Contact Sons Of Pitches management at pat@sonsofpitches.com and see us at www.sonsofpitches.com . Do you want a job after college, or do you want to get paid to do what you love? This is what you’ve been waiting for.

I don't know how to attach the image they had.

They've at least got a cute name. . .sons of pitches!

Another a cappella group...
I'm mainly posting this for the benefit of alums who are not on campus to hear about this, but it seems another new a cappella group is forming. I just got this email. More competition for the Logs than Resonance, but I just thought it was interesting, and you all might want to know.

"Want to join MIT's newest, smallest, and most awesome all-male a cappella group...?

This Friday, from 7 to 10 PM, on the 3rd floor of the student center!

We are a different type of a cappella group.
With only 5 guys, there is no way you will be lost in the crowd.

Want to check us out, ask a question, or get a time to audition?
Email Impulse-Auditions@mit.edu."
